BREAKING AND LEADING
By: Apostle Caleb Oluwakayode
“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters” Psalms 23:2.
According to the Scripture, becoming a son of God is by being under the leading of Holy Spirit, Romans 8:14. It means, you must consciously allow God to be in charge of your life by leading your way of life on daily basis as believers in Christ. Being a child of God is about reflecting God in our daily activities, which will not be possible until after we sacrifice our “Self-Will” on the altar of “Spiritual Disciplines.”
This has made many believers stuck and stagnant in the journey of faith, because they thought all they needed is just to confess Jesus as their Lord and Savior. That confession will only make you righteous before God, it can’t make you holy. Holiness comes as a result of living your life according to the Word and Holy Spirit. Holiness only results from a right relationship with God by believing in Jesus Christ as Savior (accepting His gift of eternal life). If we have not placed our faith in God’s Son alone to save us from our sins, then our pursuit of holiness is in vain.
So, we must first make sure we are Born-Again believers, John 3. If we truly are believers, then we recognized that our position in Christ automatically sets us apart from the world, 1 Peter 2:9. After all, we have a relationship with the living God! Then we must daily live a set-apart life, not trying to “blend in” with the world, but instead living according to God’s Word as we study the Bible and grow in it.
The Psalmist understood the process of becoming holy, and revealed how it took place in his personal life with us, because holiness is a personal thing. He said God “made” him against what and who he was. It was not his wish to lie down in the green pasture, but because his “Will” had been broken, he had no option than to comply, even when it was hard and difficult. The major hindrance to holiness is what we were before accepting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour; and we will never attain level of holiness, until after we are broken and made by God through His Spirit and Word. When God made the Psalmist, his “Will” and interests could not count again. He ended surrendering everything of his life to the “Will Of God”. That is what brokenness is all about. When you are dead to carnality, and don’t longer lust after the world and its evil desire. The Psalmist experienced all this, which gave God authority and ownership of him completely. The Psalmist passed through brokenness in order for him to be led by God.
Beloved, God has a lot to make with, and out of your life, but it won’t be possible except you are broken. As the death the end of carnality, so also the life and the best of God will not manifest in you, except you are broken. Jesus could accept you with all your flops as a result of your flaws, but He would not continue with you; except your “Will” is surrendered and sacrificed. If your crying to Him is to have His way in your life, you must also ready to give Him the way. Then He will lead your life, and you will see His beauty manifesting in your life. Though, it may look so hard in the beginning; but dragging your life with Him can never give you the best of life, either herein of thereafter. I pray the Lord to help you in Jesus name. Shalom.
