RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST
Annual Camp Meeting 2020
July 11, 2020

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”

1 PETER 1:3.

The Bible is very clear about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, which has nothing to do with Easter. This is because the word Easter is not found in the Bible, and through that, some may lose the right message which resurrection came to offer if we fail to understand the difference between the two.

Though, I am not condemning those celebrating Easter, because celebrating it or not according to Col 2:16 can not make anybody better with God. The Bible says: “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath” So as believers, we must never allow anybody to judge you in respect of this important basic of our faith in Christ. If you see it as Easter or Resurrection, the point you must not miss is: Jesus DIED on the CROSS, BURIED AND RESURRECTED 3DAYS AFTER. This is what we are remembering and celebrating. And if you have contrary opinions to this, it means you are on a wrong path.

The question now is: WHY DID JESUS RESURRECTED?

The Bible is very clear about this, and it is through the Word we can understand why Jesus had to pass through all that. According to our golden text:

  1. The number one thing we have through the resurrection of Jesus is LIVELY HOPE. There is hope for every believer in Christ through His resurrection, be it in this world or hereafter. In life and in death we have hope, because Jesus resurrected. Many were crying at the cross, but when He resurrected, they were happy and highly confident.
  2. Jesus resurrected so we can understand that, life continues after death. Death is not the end of a man, because man was made to be eternal by nature. That is the message Jesus passed across to us through His resurrection. Bible in 1 Corinthians 15:12 says:

“Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?”

Resurrection is the main part of Gospel, which is to tell the world and believers in Christ about events that will surely take place after death. Please never assume death is the end. Death is just a passage into a new beginning through resurrection of the dead.

  1. Jesus Christ resurrected so we can have something meaningful to preach about Jesus. Jesus is more popular than anybody on earth because He resurrected. Nobody has ever done that! Be it before Him or after Him. He became the Firstfruit of the dead. That is our message. Without the resurrection of Jesus, our message will become a mere fable like other religions. 1 Cor 15:14c. Bible says: “And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain”

  1. Jesus Christ resurrected so our faith in Him will not be in vain. Our faith will be of no value when there is no event after death. Resurrection of Jesus is a proof that our faith in Jesus will never be in vain. We have confidence we will see Him and reign with Him in the end, 1 Cor 15:14c. Bible says: “And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain”

  1. It is through the resurrection of Jesus Christ we came out of our sins. We died and buried with Him through Baptism and when we were brought out of water, we gained a NEW LIFE in Him. A life that can no no longer sin. The Bible says: “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” Romans 6:4.
  2. Without the Resurrection Of Jesus Christ, those that have died and sleep in the Lord perished, 1 Cor 15:18.

Brethren, these are benefits we have through the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. You could see that resurrection is beyond a mere celebration, it is a matter of life and death. There is nothing wrong in celebrating it, but it is very dangerous to celebrate it when you have not experienced it.

Jesus did all that, so for you and I not to perish, and what would be your excuse if all these come to nothing in your life. This is another chance to embrace the cross by surrendering all to Jesus. He has done all, you have to believe it and embrace it. Then, you will start living a new life as proposed by God.

Celebration of this season is good, but rumination is better. I pray the Lord to help us all in Jesus name. Bow down your head and talk to Jesus about your life

Prayer Point: Lord, help me so all you’ve done will not be a waste over my life in Jesus.
